Person with Epilepsy

My name is Brooke, I am 25 years old, and I have epilepsy. I am a Sunshine Committee Member through the Epilepsy Awareness Ambassador Program, and I love to help all the young adults that battle epilepsy every day.

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2019. I love to run, read, write, explore, take pictures, and try new things. I am constantly getting myself out of my comfort zone because I have never really known comfort.

I have been battling epilepsy for over 10 years while juggling school, work, friends, relationships, my sorority, and representing Texas A&M as a counselor for transfer students.

I now work for a nonprofit organization, and every day is different. I have always had a difficult time focusing on my work or studies. Over time, I have tried out many different methods to help, and I have found that activities such as running, yoga, photography, clean eating, listening to podcasts, and painting are good for my mental and physical health.

Having epilepsy made me realize I need to take extra care of my body. So, I cut soda and fast food out of my diet. I eat all-natural foods. Over time, I have found that this has helped me keep my mind clear and alleviate bad side effects.

I want to share my story with people who are struggling with epilepsy because not a lot of people do. I think that epilepsy is something that needs to be talked about more. If you’re a young adult who has epilepsy and you're struggling with school, relationships, mental health, or even finding a job – you’re not alone
